If you already have a site/profile which you want to use, skip to step 5 on making money
Before you even think about putting a site online you actually need to build it.
Now if you don't have a knowledge of HTML, PHP etc then you will need to use a web builder. Popular webuilders include dreamweaver, which isn't free by any stretch of the imagination, and if you're not prepared to invest any money in this project at all, then you will have to use an online webuilder; but I'll come to that later.
Step 1: Building the website:
As before mentioned, without any programming skills at all, you are limited to the use of an online or software based webuilder. (If you do have programming experience and would like to build your own site skip to part 2) There are huge selections of sites that offer free webuilding tools and other products for free, however most of them are complete and utter wastes of time, however these few are the most trusted and reliable that I've found:
Piczo.com
For free it's quite good but it doesn't allow much webspace or bandwidth ( which determines how many visitors you can get per month, also slows down the loading time)
Freewebs.com
Same as Piczo, low bandwidth and webspace, but pretty good for a free service
Bravenet
Bravenet offers tonnes of free webtools and webcontent as well as giving you free hosting plus a subdomain
Now you've built your website it's time to get it online
(if you used piczo, freewebs etc then it will already be online) if so skip to step 3
Step 2: hosting your site
There are many sites that say that they offer free hosting with all the added extras included, but the best ones that I have found so far are:
000Webhost Offers a large bandwidth and webspace, with script compatability
X10hosting Offers everything you need to get started, for free
Or you could used payed hosting, my own hosting company offers very competitive prices - Softwarespy Hosting
Step 3: Getting a domain name (e.g. www.myname.com)
A domain name is what makes your site stand out on search engines, and makes it look professional. If you used an online webuilder they will probably have provided you with a site URL this is a subdomain e.g (yourname.freesite.com) This looks rubbish and makes your site seem tacky, like mine. You are quite limited for choice if you want a free domain; anything like .com .co.uk .net etc
you'll have to pay for, but by going to Co.cc you can get 2 free domain names for your site! Or you could go to Co.nr However you do have to place small ads on your site
Step 4: Getting traffic
Add your url to google by going here, or add to msn by clicking here. But most importantly add you url to the open directory, all search engines spider off it - click here. Also our own directory is free as well.Once you have done that your site will start to be spidered by search engines, who will add your site to their index. Beyond that it is a case of sensible advertising and waiting for your site to gain an internet presence. Bidvertiser is a good way to advertise your site.
Step 5: Making Money
Making money from a site or even a profile page is quite easy once you know how! The best way of making money is by selling a product or service, but if you do not have one then you should use affiliate programs, whereby you link to another site and are payed when someone signs up to a particular service. These are very easy to set up. These are just a few you could use:
Link 1: Alertpay - recieve payments online, similar to paypal
Link 2: Co.cc - Get a free domain for your site
Link 3: Bravenet - Spice up your pages for free
Link 4:Bidvertiser - Sell ad space
That concludes my beginner's guide to website creation
